Abstract: In this talk we will outline key ingredients and techniques in our recent proof of new subconvexity bounds for L-functions for GL(3). These include Voronoi's summation formula (Miller-Schmit and Goldfeld-Li), asymptotic extensions of Voronoi's formula (Li and Ren-Ye), weighted stationary phase of higher order (McKee-Sun-Ye), and application of the above three methods twice (Li and McKee-Sun-Ye). We believe that these techniques could lead to better subconvexity bounds in other cases.
