Abstract:
We will introduce some of the basic features of the theory of modular forms in one variable. This in particular includes the modular group and its action on the upper half-plane, reduction theory, examples of modular forms and cusp forms (Eisenstein series, theta series), the valence formula and its applications, the basic modular invariant j, Hecke operators, Hecke L-functions, non-holomorphic Eisenstein series and applications. No pre-knowledge of modular forms is supposed. However, some basic knowledge of complex function theory will be assumed.
