Title: Congruent number problem and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture


Speaker: Shuai Zhai (Cambridge / Shandong)


Abstract: In this lecture, I will present the congruent number problem, which is the oldest major unsolved problem in number theory and can be traced back at least to the 10th century in Arab manuscripts, and its relation to elliptic curves and the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer.
